Mount Shasta in winter at golden hour, snowy slopes above pine forest
← Shasta Sanctuary
Winter stays · Dec – April

Ski days end at the sauna.

A wooded basecamp thirty minutes from Mt. Shasta Ski Park. Lifts in the morning, woodfire and steam by dusk, the deep silence of snow at night.

The ritual

A winter day, held end to end.

Most ski trips end in a parking lot. Here they end in firelight. The sauna is hot when you return; the cold plunge is waiting; dinner is slow.

  1. 01

    Day on the snow

Lift-served laps at Mt. Shasta Ski Park, a guided backcountry tour, or a quiet day on nordic trails.

  2. 02

    Woodfired sauna

Return to a sauna already glowing. Long, slow heat — the kind that loosens a day spent in cold.

  3. 03

    Cold plunge

Step into snow or cold water. The classic Nordic rhythm — repeat until you feel taller.

  4. 04

    Fire-lit dinner

A simple meal by the fireplace. The mountain in white robes outside the window. Sleep arrives easy.

Mount Shasta in deep winter — snow drifts and pine forest
The mountain

Three ways to meet the snow.

  • Mt. Shasta Ski Park

    ≈ 30 minutes · Lift-served

Three chairlifts, a tubing park, lessons, and rentals on Hwy 89. Friendly to first-timers, generous to anyone who just wants soft groomers and a long lunch.

  • Backcountry & splitboard

Guided tours · Dec – May

Above-treeline terrain on Mt. Shasta itself with local outfitters like Shasta Mountain Guides. Day tours suit most levels; multi-day options reach further.

  • Nordic & snowshoe

    Trails throughout Shasta-Trinity NF

Quiet, lift-free days on groomed nordic trails and forest roads. Bring snowshoes; we'll point you to the nearest trailheads.

The basecamp

Built for cold days and warm returns.

Five wooded acres, a 2,500+ sq ft log home, and a separate woodfired sauna. Everything you need to come home tired, get warm, and sleep well.

  • Drying space for gear
  • Stone fireplace in the great room

A three-day winter stay

Effort, recovery, stillness.

A loose template — bend it however you like. Most guests find the rhythm finds them.

Day 1

Lift day

Drive to Mt. Shasta Ski Park for first chair. Long lunch on the deck. Home by 4. Sauna at dusk, plunge, slow dinner.

Day 2

Backcountry or nordic

A guided splitboard / ski tour above treeline, or a quieter nordic + snowshoe day. Return for a sauna round and an early fire.

Day 3

Rest

Sleep in. Long sauna ritual. A walk in the snow. Read by the fire. Leave the way you arrived — softer.
